Two teeth of tiger that killed cattle in Wayanad found broken, trapped in cattle shed

WAYANAD: The health condition of the tiger, which was a threat to the local residents and domestic animals for days in Kenichira, has been surfaced. The tiger identified as Tholpetty 17 was trapped in the cage set up by the forest department at Kenichira last night. Two of the tiger's lower teeth were found broken. The tiger will not be released to the forest citing health issues. The tiger presently in Irulam forest department center may be rehabilitated in the zoo.


A detailed health checkup of the tiger will be conducted today. The tiger killed three cows in one night at Kenichira. The tiger was trapped in the cage on Sunday at 11 pm while returning to the cowshed where it had killed the cows the previous day.


The tiger killed Sabu's cow at Kenichira on Saturday at 10 pm. The tiger killed two cows of Maliyekkal Benny early in the morning. The tiger attacked three-year-old dairy cow belonging to Punnappilly Varghese of Edakkad Manthadam last Thursday. The forest department had set up a cage here, but the tiger could not be caught.


Locals came out in protest yesterday after the death of the cattle. They protested by blocking the road with the carcass of the cow killed in the tiger attack. They blocked Sultan Bathery Panamaram Road. Meanwhile, the tiger was trapped last night.
