THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala education minister V Sivankutty assured about resolving the Malappuram plus-one seat crisis soon. The minister informed that a two-member committee will be appointed to decide in this regard. The minister was speaking to the media on Tuesday after discussing the matter with student organizations.

Malappuram has a shortfall of 7478 seats, Kasaragod 252 seats and Palakkad 1757 seats. In seven taluks in Malappuram, Science seats are more and Commerce and Humanities seats are less. As a first move of rapprochement, the government will allot new temporary batches in Malappuram district.

The two-member committee appointed to decide the additional batch will submit its report by July 5. Further decisions will be taken after studying the report. Students who are certain to miss plus-one classes will be provided alternate bridge courses to continue their studies.

KSU state president Aloysius Xavier has announced a state-wide strike on all educational institutions following the police lathi charge against the protest in Malappuram. KSU also marched to the Kollam Collectorate on Monday. In Malappuram, MSF, Harita and Fraternity organizations held similar protest marches. MSF workers even tried to enter the Malappuram RDD office but were blocked by police.
