Refused physical relationship with mother-in-law; Woman tortured by husband, in-laws

AGRA: A young woman reached the police station with a complaint against her husband and in-laws for torturing her for refusing physical relationship with her mother-in-law. The complaint was filed by a Ghazipur native. According to the complaint, the mother-in-law always pestered the woman to engage in a physical relationship with her. When refused, the mother-in-law attacked her with a razor blade inflicting deep wounds in her body that required stitches.

According to the complainant: From the time she reached the house after marriage, there were deviant attempts from the mother-in-law to lure her into sexual relationships. All attempts were thwarted but the situation turned worse after the complainant gave birth to a child. The mother-in-law approached her again with such requests which the complainant refused. This time, even the complainant's husband started torturing her for the refusal to abide by his mother’s request.

At one stage, the complainant was ousted from the house, and it was only with the intervention of neighbours that she returned to the house. The woman says that her husband's brother also brutally tortured her. It is also alleged that the complainant was locked inside a room for one month and was allowed only one dress to wear for the whole time.

Unable to endure the torture, the young woman went to her own home. After one month, the mother-in-law approached again assuring to settle all problems amicably. However, the compromise talks did not succeed and came to the brink of conflict. This forced the woman to approach the police with a complaint.
