THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Ration shops in the state will remain closed from July 6 to 9 due to various reasons. The shops will be close on July 6 for taking stock of items. July 7 is Sunday, which is a holiday. On July 8 and 9, ration shops will be closed as part of a strike observed by Kerala Ration Employees' Federation, an organization led by AITUC.

On June 19, when the strike was announced by the Joint Ration Coordination Committee, which included the CITU, the AITUC abstained from it. The Samyukta Ration Coordination Committee has decided to close shops and hold a 48-hour round-the-clock strike at the Martyrs' Column in Thiruvananthapuram's Palayam. Employees Federation state president J Udayabhanu and general secretary PG Priyankumar announced that a secretariat march and dharna will be held on July 8.

Meanwhile, ration distribution in June has been extended till July 5. The distribution for July will begin on the 8th.
