MVD to carry out strict vehicle inspections from Monday to check for modifications, Rs 5000 fine for each alteration

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Starting from Monday, strict action will be taken against vehicles with modifications. A penalty of Rs 5000 will be charged for each alterations. This is as per the instructions of the High Court.

Shuhaib murder case accused Akash Thillankeri driving a modified vehicle through Panamaram town was controversial. Taking notice of Thillankeri's journey, the High Court took suo motu cognizance and ordered strict action.

The Motor Vehicles Department will implement an action plan to tighten the noose around unlawful alterations. In the first week, cargo vehicles will undergo inspection. After that, two-wheelers, four-wheelers, transport and tourist buses will be stopped and fined for alterations. Inspection footage will be taken.

Those running vehicles after disconnecting speed governor will be stopped from Monday. They will be let go after setting up the speed governor and imposing a fine. Excess load on overloaded vehicles will be unloaded and a fine will have to be paid. Those who have increased the size of the loading area in the vehicle for overloading should remove it. Time was allotted earlier for this.

Modifications in engine

Roadside inspections cannot detect engine modifications intended to enable vehicles for overspeeding. Chip-controlled electrical fuel injection systems are used in cars and others. Its software is being modified to overclock the vehicle. There are special centres for this. A modification that is not approved by the manufacturer will cause the vehicle to malfunction and will lead to accidents. Such a change has also been made in buses running inter-state services.

Many forms of transformation

1. Two wheeler: Handle and guard will be changed. The silencer can be made to emit fire.

2. Car, Jeep: Bigger tyres, bright LED lights, changes made to silencer

3. Traveller, Bus : The wiring system will be completely changed. Deafening music system and dazzling lights

Fine

Rs 5000 will be levied as fine for each modifications.
