KOZHIKODE: District Secretariat to take strict action against CPM area committee member for allegedly accepting bribe of Rs 22 lakh from doctor by promising PSC membership. The current decision is to seek an explanation from the accused Town Area Committee member and if the explanation is not satisfactory, expel him from the party membership.
At the same time, it is also known that the woman doctor and her husband gave a statement to the Special Branch yesterday that they did not ask for any position or pay any money. Rumour has it that the money was returned after the controversy.
Although technically the problem will end like this, the CPM state leadership is of the position that steps must be taken to recover from the dishonour the party has suffered in the public. Minister Muhammad Riaz is also of the position that strict action should be taken as his name has been dragged.
The district leadership was ready to take action when the state leadership gave strict instructions that the issue is serious and should not be confined to the district level.
In the meeting attended by members of the state secretariat, it was suggested that there should be no consensus in the case of defamation of the party and the government and if people want to gain trust, they should reject those who should be rejected and move forward. A commission consisting of three district secretariat members is also investigating on the instructions of the party state secretariat. Clarification will be sought from the area committee member before the commission report. Action will be taken on the basis of both the reports.
CPM District Secretary P. Mohanan told the media that there is no allegation of corruption within the party in Kozhikode. It's all just hype created by the media. The party has not received any complaint. There are no complaints from those who say they have lost money. Those accused of buying are also absent. The party is not aware of such fraud. This is part of the move to attack Minister Mohammad Riaz and thereby the party and the government.
