National executive meeting begins; Annie Raja in CPI national secretariat

NEW DELHI: National Federation of Indian Women general secretary Annie Raja and IATUC general secretary KP Rajendran have been inducted into the CPI national secretariat and national executive respectively in the vacancy created following the demise of former CPI Kerala state secretary Kanam Rajendran. Binoy Vishwam, the current state secretary, is also a member of the 11-member secretariat.

It was thought that K Prakash Babu would be named as a member of the national secretariat. However, the state leadership rejected the news. The state leadership stated that the name of Annie Raja, a national leader, was considered instead of Prakash Babu as Binoy Vishwam, who was in the secretariat as a national leader, became the state secretary. Prakash Babu also denied the news that his name was rejected by the leadership. He said that the decision to include Annie Raja in the national secretariat was taken during the Vijayawada Party Congress and that it was a unanimous decision made by the national executive.

Girish Sharma from U.P. was also inducted into the secretariat in place of the late Atul Kumar Anjan. There was also a demand to consider Rajya Sabha member P Santhosh Kumar for this vacancy.

A three-day CPI National Executive Committee meeting to review the Lok Sabha election performance began in Delhi on Saturday.

Annie Raja, a native of Iritty in Kannur, is the wife of CPI General Secretary D Raja. The CPI came through the student body AISF and the youth wing AIYF. She reached CPI through the student body AISF and the youth wing AIYF. She is a constant presence in various left-wing agitations. In 2024, she contested against Rahul Gandhi in the Wayanad Lok Sabha elections.
