INDIA alliance dominates by-elections, wins in 10 out of 13 constituencies; NDA registers wins two seats

NEW DELHI: The INDIA alliance has made a big advancement in the first by-elections held after the Lok Sabha elections. It emerged victorious in 10 out of the 13 seats where the by-elections were held. On the other hand, the NDA managed to win only two seats. In Bihar, an independent candidate won the by-election by defeating the candidates of JDU and RJD. The BJP won one seat each in Madhya Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh.

The elections were held for 13 constituencies in seven states- Punjab (1), Himachal Pradesh (3), Uttarakhand (2), West Bengal (4), Madhya Pradesh (1), Bihar (1), Tamil Nadu (1). AAP candidate Mohinder Bhagat won in Jalandhar West in Punjab by more than twenty thousand votes. Trinamool won all the four seats that went to polls in Bengal. In Himachal, the Congress won two seats while the BJP alliance won one seat. DMK's Anniyur Siva won the Vikravandi seat in Tamil Nadu by 60,000 votes. Congress won both seats in Uttarakhand. BJP's Kamlesh Pratap Shahi won the Amarwar seat in Madhya Pradesh.

In the Rupauli constituency of Bihar, independent candidate Shankar Singh triumphed over JDU's Kaladhar Prasad Mandal by a margin of 8246 votes.
