NEW DELHI: Supreme Court said that there will be no re-examination in NEET-UG. The Supreme Court will come out in a short time with the complete judgment on the petitions demanding that the NEET examination be canceled and re-examination should be conducted. A bench comprising Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, which heard the case, said that no widespread irregularity could be found in the current situation. There is no need to cancel the examination in the absence of evidence of gross irregularity.

24 lakh candidates appeared for the exam. Out of which 20 lakhs qualified. Re-examination can have serious consequences. It was also indicated that to address and prevent similar issues, guidelines will be provided for the future conduct of examinations. "Cancellation of the examination and re-examination will affect admissions. There will be fewer qualified medical professionals in the country in the future. It will have adverse effect on medical education," the court observed.

The question paper was leaked in Bihar and Jharkhand. The court stated that there is no dispute about the leak but said there is no material on record at this time to conclude that the result of the exam was vitiated or that there was a systemic breach in the sanctity of the exam. Many of the 24 lakh people who appeared for the exam had traveled a long way from their own homes. It will be difficult for them to retake the exam. The reports of NTA and CBI had been submitted earlier on the issue of question paper leak. The NTA report states that there was no widespread question paper leak. However, the petitioners challenged these reports in court.
