US Secret Service Director resigns following attempted assassination of Donald Trump

b

NEW YORK: US Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle has resigned following the shooting of former US President and Republican Party candidate Donald Trump during the election campaign. The resignation comes after admitting that there was a security lapse and failure to prevent the assassination attempt. Republican Party leaders said they welcomed the decision.

Kimberly, who admitted before a congressional committee on Monday that the attack on Trump was an intelligence failure, said it was the biggest security lapse in decades. Republicans have accused the Secret Service of failing to provide enough security for Trump. Then Republicans and Democrats came forward demanding their resignation. Senators Mitch McConnell and Johnson have called for Cheatle's resignation. Kimberly, who served as a Secret Service agent for 27 years, will become the head of the security department in 2021.

On the 13th, Trump was shot in the right ear while speaking at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. The assailant was killed by security personnel.
