VADAKKANCHERY: It is suspected that landslides occurred in the Akamala forest of Vadakkanchery during heavy rains. A large amount of soil fell on the track between the Akamala Sridharmashasta temple and the railway over bridge during the flood, disrupting train traffic for several hours. The expert team came with an earthmoving machine and removed the soil and stones with great effort.

The trains were allowed to pass after a safety check was carried out due to the suspicion that the foundation of the bridge had collapsed. All three tracks of the Vadakkanchery railway station were submerged in water, affecting traffic. Ernakulam - Kannur Intercity terminated at Thrissur, Tirunelveli - Palakkad Palaruvi Express at Aluva, Thiruvananthapuram - Shornur Venad Express at Chalakudy.

Guruvayur - Thrissur, Thrissur - Guruvayur, Shornur - Thrissur, Thrissur - Shornur passengers have been cancelled. In Akamala region, the train passes entirely through forest. Accidents are common during rainy season. Derailment of freight trains is also a major headache for the railways due to the steep climb.
