THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that Kerala is likely to receive heavy rainfall till August 2. The IMD stated that a low-pressure trough located from the Kerala coast to the south Gujarat coast, and the strong westerly/ northwesterly winds along the Kerala coast would result in moderate to heavy rains accompanied by thunder and lightning in the state for the next five days.
The IMD has sounded an orange alert in Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasargod districts. Isolated places in these districts are likely to receive very heavy rainfall, the IMD said. According to the IMD, an orange alert indicates very heavy rainfall ranging from 115.6 mm to 204.4 mm within 24 hours.

31-07-2024: Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur and Palakkad
01-08-2024: Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasargod
02-08-2024: Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasargod
Isolated places in these districts are likely to receive heavy rainfall. A yellow alert indicates heavy rainfall ranging from 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm within 24 hours.
Very heavy rainfall can cause accidents. Heavy rainfall is expected in a short period of time. This can create flash floods. Waterlogging is also likely to occur in urban areas and low-lying areas in general. Continued rainfall may trigger landslides. Public and government agencies should exercise extreme caution.
