THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kottayam native Dr Deepthimol Jose (37), a critical care specialist at a private hospital in Kollam, has been remanded on charges of attempted murder in the incident of shooting a housewife with an air gun, after visiting the house on the pretence of delivering a courier. Police said that Deepthi had planned the attack on NHM PRO Shini almost one year back.
Shini's husband, Sujith, a former PRO at a private medical college in Meeyannoor, nursed great rapport with Deepti, a doctor in the same hospital. However, things started turning sour after Sujith briskly put an end to the friendship after eight months of working together. The sudden split incensed Deepti but the mainspring for the attack was Sujith’s decision to leave the country and opt for a job as PRO in Maldives three years back. Deepti confessed to police that Sujith loved her family most in the world, so his sudden volte-face was more than what she could bear. This formed into a devious plan of an attack on Sujith’s wife, which Deepti thought would bring her the required solace.
Deepti's family life also went into shambles with few knowing about her relationship with Sujith. Deepti resorted to sleeping pills and constantly suffered from mental stress. The attack on Shini was to repay her years of suffering inflicted by Sujith. As a first step, she purchased the air gun through an e-commerce platform.
A fake number plate to be attached to her father-in-law’s car was made in Ernakulam a year ago. The car number was selected after seeing the online details of registration. Deepti, a native of Ernakulam, visited Thiruvananthapuram one year ago to closely scrutinize Sujith’s residence and to do the essential study required to work out the plan.
According to police: Even after moving to Maldives, Sujith used to call Deepti frequently on WhatsApp and met her twice in person. However, Sujith soon started detaching from Deepti after considering the ill effect the ‘friendship’ could wreak on his marital life.
Deepti never planned to kill Shini but wanted to give Sujith a ‘shock’; to let him know the sufferings she went through. However, police never ruled out the chances of Deepti considering starting a life with Sujith in the worst-case scenario of Shini getting killed in the attack.
The car used for the attack has been seized from Deepti’s husband’s house in Ayoor. The car which was taken away on Saturday was brought back on Sunday evening. Deepti's husband is a doctor at Parippally Medical College.
According to police, Sujith also admitted to having a close relationship with Deepti. After completing her MD in Pulmonology, Deepti also completed a Fellowship in Critical Care. She joined the private hospital in Kollam just five months ago.
