KOCHI: The central government issued a red alert in five districts of the state. Red alert has been sounded in Idukki, Ernakulam, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasargod. There is a chance of heavy rains at isolated places and strong winds of up to 50 kmph.
An orange alert has been sounded in Alappuzha, Kottayam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram and Wayanad. These districts are likely to witness moderate rain at isolated places and gusty winds of up to 40 kmph.
There is a warning of a landslide at Akamala in Wadakkanchery, Thrissur. Following the warning, the Wadakkanchery Municipality asked people to evacuate from there. An inspection conducted jointly by various departments it was found that there is a possibility of a landslide at any moment. 41 families were directed to relocate till the end of the rainy season.
The Central Water Commission has announced orange and yellow alerts as the water level in rivers rises dangerously.
Orange Alert: The Central Water Commission has announced an orange alert for rivers Karuvannur (Palakadavu station) and Gayatri (Kondazhi station) in Thrissur.
Yellow alert: The Central Water Commission has issued a yellow alert for the rivers Karamana (Vellaikadavu station) in Thiruvananthapuram, Thodupuzha (Manakkad station) in Idukki, Keecheri (Kottapuram Station) in Thrissur and Payaswini (Erinhipuzha station) in Kasaragod. So, people living near the coast should be vigilant.
