A packed theatre scenario was on excepted lines for the makers when they decided to re-release 'Devadoothan' after 24 years. The once-box office disaster had over the years amassed a cult fan base, so the makers were optimistic while rejuvenating their product. However, never did they fathom that the movie would break box office records to continue in house full shows even after two weeks into its re-release.
In a new record for the highest-grossing re-release in Kerala, the movie had already collected Rs 3.2 crores at the box office. It is rather embarrassing to note that the 24-year-old movie has also surpassed the other theatrical releases of July 2024 in the box office collection.
The Mohanlal movie has also thus broken the record set by the 4k re-release of cult classic ‘Spadikam’, which amassed Rs 3.1 crore at the box office. ‘Devadoothan’ is still running in packed theatres with tickets selling like hotcakes.
