MALAPPURAM: Kutty Ahamed Kutty, Muslim League leader and former minister for local self-government, passed away Sunday morning. He was 71. Kutty Ahamed Kutty contested and won from Tanur in 1992 by-elections and from Tirurangadi in 1996 and 2001. He was the minister for local self-government in the Oommen Chandy Cabinet.
He entered politics after graduation. He had held the posts of Muslim League Tanur mandalam president, STU Malappuram district president, chairman of Tirur MSM Polytechnic Governing Body. He was born on January 15 in 1953 in Malappuram as the son of K Saidalikutty Master. He leaves behind his wife Jahanara, two sons Suhas Ahamed, Shahbas Ahamed and daughter Suhana.
After suffering a serious neck injury in a car accident, he withdrew from active politics. However, interventions were made at the local level. Many dignitaries, including the chief minister, condoled the death of the leader.
‘Kutty Ahmed Kutty was a prominent political leader who had a remarkable presence as a minister and as a member of the legislature. Kutty Ahamed Kutty was careful to add a social dimension to the legislative debates along with a literary dimension. He constantly raised his voice in the House for the interests of his hometown and the people he represented. He was a secular leader who believed that the interest of the community he belonged be protected through the protection of public interest. The death of him has caused a great loss to the society,’ the chief minister said in his condolence message.
