THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Indian Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rainfall in Kerala during the coming hours. An orange alert has been issued in Idukki and Malappuram districts on Monday.

According to IMD, there is a possibility of heavy rain with thunder and lightning at isolated places in Thiruvananthapuram district in the next three hours and strong winds with a speed of up to 40 km per hour. The rain is likely to continue from August 12 to August 16 in different parts of Kerala.

Thunderstorms are dangerous. They cause great damage to human and animal life.

  • Move indoors immediately at the first sign of lightning. Staying in open areas increases the chance of being struck by lightning.
  • Keep windows and doors closed during high winds and thunderstorms. Stay away from doors and windows. Stay inside the building and try not to touch the wall or floor as much as possible.
  • Do not go out to the terrace or yard during thunderstorms to collect clothes.
  • Avoid bathing during thunderstorms. Also, avoid collecting water from taps. Electricity from lightning may travel through the pipe.
