NEW DELHI: The central government has appointed Rahul Navin as the head of the Enforcement Directorate. Ministry of Personnel and Training has issued an order to appoint Rahul Navin, currently serving as the temporary director of ED, as the full-time director. 57-year-old Rahul has a two-year term. Govind Mohan IAS will also take charge as the new Home Secretary.
Rahul Navin is a 1993-batch IRS officer. He was serving as the interim director of ED from September 2023. ED had arrested two Chief Ministers of the country during this period. ED had arrested Arvind Kejriwal in the Delhi Liquor Policy scam case and Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren for alleged purchase and sale of tribal land by forging documents.
Rahul Naveen was given a temporary charge by the central government after the Supreme Court rejected the term extension of Sanjay Kumar Mishra as ED director and termed it illegal. The Supreme Court had asked if the entire department is "full of incompetent people" except the incumbent chief, in response to the Centre seeking an extension of Sanjay Kumar Mishra's term.
