Movies changing with changing times

Our films are slowly changing. A lot of good movies that revolve around real-life events and move away from the hero-and-villain format have been released in the last few years. The biggest feature of such movies is that people like the common people we see around us are acting in them. The power of script can be felt in such movies. It is also worth noting that the new directors are adopting a style of directing that is almost an avoidance of previous models. These new films are becoming very enjoyable for the masses as the new directors are not following any of the old experimental film patterns. Many talented filmmakers are emerging from Malayalam. If life stories are told honestly and in the language of the heart without any intellectual pride, there will always be people to attend and watch them. Most of the national and state awards this year are for such films. State Film Awards for 2023 films and the National Film Awards for 2022 films were announced on the same day which doubled the curiosity of people.

Kerala has a lot to be proud of at the 70th National Film Awards. 'Aattam' won the best film in the feature category because it was an exceptionally good film. Aattam is a film that cleverly and artistically points out that today's principled stand is absent in the majority and that each individual's individuality is derived from economic influences and selfishness. Anand Ekarshi, the director of this film, won the screenplay award. Aattam also has the distinction of being a film that was completely skipped by the State Film Awards Jury and the Regional Jury for the National Awards. Aattam won three awards at the Centre, including the Best Editing Award for Mahesh Bhuvanend. This has happened in the past as well. Suffice it to say that this is an omission similar to the omission of Swayamvaram years ago.

Nithya Menon became the best actress for the Tamil film Thiruchitrambalam and made Malayalam proud. Rishabh Shetty became the best actor with the Kannada film Kantara. Saudi Vellakka directed by Tarun Murthy is the best Malayalam film. Bombay Jayashree became the best singer with the song 'Chaayum Veyil' from this movie. Sreepath became the best child actor with the movie Malikappuram.

Aadujeevitham: The Goat Life, which tells the story of struggles in desert life, won nine state film awards, including the Best Director award for Blessy and the Best Actor award for Prithviraj. The best film was Kaathal – The Core, directed by Jio Baby and produced by Mammootty. It cannot be ignored that Mammootty has shown extraordinary acting in this film. Ullozhukku, which entered the competition, was also a wonderful film. Urvashi for Ullozhukku and Beena R Chandran for Thadavu (The Sentence) won Best Actress.

Music director PS Vidyadharan won the Best Singer award for his song Pathiranennorthoru Kanavil in Jananam 1947 Pranayam Thudarunnu. May the film world appreciate all the artists who have won national and state awards by giving them more opportunities.
