THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that the Onam Kit containing 13 items will be distributed to all AY ration card holders in the state this year. The Chief Minister said in a press conference that an expenditure of Rs 36 crore is expected for this initiative, which will benefit six lakh people.
Just like in previous years, Onam markets will be organized under the auspices of Supplyco to provide daily-use items at low prices this Onam period as well. Supplyco will organize Onam fairs from September 6 at all district headquarters and from September 10 to 14 at Taluk headquarters. A special system will be set up to sell the vegetables bought directly from the farmers. The Chief Minister said that steps have been taken to ensure an uninterrupted supply of daily necessities at Supplyco and 13 items of daily necessities will be distributed at the Maveli store at subsidized rates. Triveni stores offer products at 10 to 40 percent off.
2000 Farmers Markets are scheduled to be organized from September 11 to 14 as part of Onam. Common vegetables will be procured from farmers at a markup of 10 per cent over the wholesale market price and sold at a discount of up to 30 per cent below the market price. Organic vegetables will be procured from farmers at a premium of 20 per cent over the wholesale market price and sold at a discount of up to 10 per cent over the market price.
