KOLKATA: An injury-time goal in a derby match is the last thing the losing team wish for, while the scenario will be the 'icing on the cake' for the winning team. On Friday, the luck fell upon Bengaluru FC, as they defeated arch-rivals Kerala Blasters in the final few seconds of injury time. Former Blasters Player Jorge Perera Diaz's goal in the last second of injury time secured the win for Bengaluru.
Diaz's goal couldn’t come at a more ideal time as the referee was about to blow his final whistle for sudden death when the former Blasters star shook the net. Blasters reached the quarter-finals unbeaten in the group stage with two wins and one draw in three matches. On the other hand, BFC reached the quarters by winning all the matches they played.
In the very first minute of the match, Blasters goalkeeper Som Kumar got injured and was taken off the field on a stretcher.
