CHENNAI: Actress Urvashi has made a powerful statement, urging the AMMA organization to take a stronger stance on women's issues in the film industry. She emphasized that vague or evasive responses are unacceptable and that men across all areas of cinema are often exposed to humiliating situations. Urvashi stressed that AMMA must act decisively to address these issues.
Urvashi’s remarks came in the wake of a complaint filed by a foreign-language actress, highlighting that every language and culture has its own nuances. Urvashi criticized those who dismiss such complaints by saying, "It’s nothing like that," referring specifically to comments made by Siddique. She demanded that AMMA take firm action on matters brought forward by women who have courageously set aside their honor and shame to speak openly before the commission.
"It would be an understatement to say there hasn't been a single inappropriate look on film sets," Urvashi revealed, adding, "I had people I could turn to, to speak up for me. There have been repeated takes and I have the experience. I've never allowed anyone to cross boundaries because they knew that if they did, they would face serious consequences."
Urvashi also remarked that legal issues cannot be ignored, and now is not the time to point fingers or assign blame. She urged AMMA to recognize the critical role it plays and reminded the organization that over four and a half years have already passed since these issues were first raised. "We can’t take this any longer," she concluded, emphasizing the need for immediate and effective action.
