Is it an end to Mukesh’ political and film careers? Concern of being arrested before resignation, CPM in tight spot

Is Mukesh MLA's political and film career coming to an end after a case was registered against him under non-bailable section following an actress' revelation. CPI, the main constituent in the Left Front, has already come forward publicly demanding his resignation. K Ajitha and CPI leader Annie Raja have demanded his resignation. Under the leadership of writer Sarah Joseph, 100 women activists from all fields had signed and issued a statement. As the protests intensified, the CPM is in a tight spot and also strengthened their stand against him. CPM's stand when the allegations were raised in the beginning was that he need not resign.

There is a strong demand from within the CPM that Mukesh should resign as MLA. The party had given clear indications to Mukesh that he would have to step down from the film policy committee when the sexual allegations were raised. After that, when things reached the stage of filing a case, there were indications that the MLA would have to resign if a case was filed. The case has been registered under non-bailable section. So, he is likely to be arrested. It is reported that the CPM will take a decision on the resignation of the MLA this afternoon. There is concern that there may be an arrest before that. Meanwhile, a report has also come that Mukesh will respond to the issue related to the disclosure. A report said Mukesh has informed his friends that he will respond after consulting legal experts.

The party leadership had taken a stand that there should be no intervention in the way of helping or justifying Mukesh. Especially since BJP and UDF have come strongly against Mukesh. Even before the revelation of the actress, there was strong resentment against Mukesh in the CPM. The main criticism was that his performance as a representative of the people was very poor. Mukesh is not a CPM member, so the party could not correct him in that level. Mukesh entered the assembly for the first time after winning the 2016 elections as a left independent. Victory repeated in the last assembly elections as well. However, in the recent Lok Sabha elections, he contested against M K Premachandran but was defeated by a huge majority.

There was criticism that Mukesh was not a suitable candidate against M K Premachandran when his name was announced. The Left leadership did not pay heed to it and they were not ready to change him. When the results were announced, Premachandran won with a huge majority. There was criticism even from the party centers that the sentiment against Mukesh led to an increase in the majority.

In an interview with Mukesh's ex-wife Saritha, she opened up about the brutal harassment she faced from him when she was carrying. They had enumerated all his harassments. Saritha said that she did not complain to the police because Mukesh's father O Madhavan requested me not to do so. This is also being used by opponents on social media against Mukesh.
