THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Actor Mammootty has emphasized the need for filmmakers to exercise caution and vigilance to prevent undesirable incidents in the film industry. Speaking on the Justice Hema Committee report, he highlighted that the committee was appointed by the government to address serious issues within the industry and to propose solutions and recommendations.
Mammootty stated, "Cinema is a reflection of society, embodying both its good and bad aspects. As a sector under close public scrutiny, even the smallest events in the film industry can spark widespread discussion. Filmmakers must be careful and alert to ensure nothing untoward occurs."
He went on to express his support for the Justice Hema Committee, which was established to study the film industry after a grave incident took place. "The committee was formed to offer solutions and suggest preventive measures. We must all welcome and support the recommendations and solutions outlined in the report. It is high time that all associations within the film industry unite to implement them," Mammootty said.
Mammootty also touched upon the ongoing police investigations related to complaints within the industry, urging that these be conducted with integrity. "The full version of the Justice Hema Committee report is before the court. Let the police investigate honestly, and let the court determine the appropriate punishments."
Addressing concerns about the existence of a "power team" within the industry, Mammootty dismissed such notions, stating, "There is no 'power team' in cinema. The film industry is not a place where such things can exist."
He concluded by urging the implementation of the practical recommendations in the Hema Committee report and the enactment of necessary legislation to overcome any legal hurdles. "Ultimately, the survival of cinema is paramount," Mammootty asserted.
