BEIRUT: 8 people were killed and nearly 2750 people were injured after pagers used by Hezbollah operatives exploded en masse in Lebanon. According to sources, the devices, used by Hezbollah members for communication, suddenly burst into flames.

Health Minister Firass Abiad further informed that 200 people are in critical condition after the communication devices exploded on Tuesday. He also said that the victims are receiving treatment in over 150 hospitals.

Reports claimed that some Hezbollah members had noticed their pagers overheating and returned them before the explosion. Experts indicate that the blast was a meticulously planned and executed act.

Hezbollah had introduced new devices last month. Meanwhile, some reports are claiming that Israel is behind the blasts. Israeli media reports that some close associates of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have confirmed the involvement of Israel in the blasts. However, Israel has not officially commented on the matter.
