THRISSUR: A major ATM theft has been reported in the district. Three ATMs at Mapranam, Kolazhi and Shornur Road were looted. The incident happened between 2:30 and 4:00 am. The preliminary conclusion is that the thieves have robbed more than Rs 60 lakh.
A four-member team who came in a car smashed the ATM using a gas cutter and then fled with the money. The CCTV visuals of the car has surfaced.
The thieves came in a white coloured car. However, the number plate of the car is fake. The accused were wearing masks. It is reported that none of the cameras in the ATMs have been destroyed. The bank employees themselves informed the police. It is hinted that professional thieves are behind the incident.
The accused first robbed the ATM at Mapranam. Rs 30 lakhs were stolen from here. Later they stole Rs 25 lakh from the ATM in Kolazi and Rs 10 lakh after smashing the ATM on Shornur Road. In the wake of the incident, checking has been tightened on the borders of Thrissur. Investigators are also looking into the possibility of the accused entering Tamil Nadu.
