COIMBATORE: In a major operation led by Deputy Commissioners R. Stalin and Saravanakumar, two students were arrested for possessing illicit substances during a police check at local hostels. Authorities recovered 100 grams of ganja, one gram of methamphetamine, one LSD stamp, prohibited tobacco products and four two-wheelers from the suspects.

The inspection, conducted on the instructions of Police Commissioner V. Balakrishnan, involved 425 police personnel who searched approximately 40 locations, including hostels and residences within the Kuniyamuthur, Sundarapuram and Saravanampatti police station limits. This operation mirrors similar actions taken by Chennai police recently.

In a related development, Chennai police apprehended two individuals for selling drugs via a mobile application. Among the arrested is a bank employee. Officers seized 42 grams of methamphetamine, 13 syringes, and ₹6,000 from the suspects, with the total value of the drugs estimated at ₹1.68 lakh. The arrests were made following confidential tips regarding drug trafficking. According to police, the accused had sourced the drugs from a friend in Bengaluru and were distributing them in Chennai through the app.
