While attending an event in Kozhikode, actress Padmapriya opened up about the infamous slapping incident she endured at a Tamil film set. She also emphasised the need for more women to join the technical section of the film.

“Mirugam was released in 2007. The director Samy slapped me during the last day of shooting. I didn’t wait for anything and stormed off from the set. There is an interesting fact about this story. The slap was not out of any rage but a planned one. The gang even tried to torture me” said Padmapriya.

More news regarding the issue was revealed by casting director Manoj Krishna in his interview with an online portal.

“The director and his friends tried many mean ways to torture the actress. It was an outdoor shoot. However, Padmapriya foiled all their plans. This left them in fury and as revenge, director Samy on the last day of the shoot slapped her without any reason. Within ten minutes, Padmapriya dialled me and revealed the incident. I waited no time to inform the producers council about the issue and the shooting was stopped within an hour. Samy was also banned from the industry for one year. Such was the support we received from the council and the actors’ association.”
