THODUPUZHA: A woman died after a car losing control rammed into a tree. Her sister-in-law, an advocate and her son sustained serious injuries in the accident. The dead is Mary Joseph (75) of Kudayathoour Sharamkuthi Padipurakkal. The accident happened Thursday morning at Vengaloor Shappumpadi in Thodupuzha.

Mary’s brother Rajan Joseph’s wife advocate Gracy Kuriakose (60) and her son Ted (29) sustained injuries. The locals rushed to the rescue after hearing the noise. Though the injured were taken to a private hospital, the life of Mary could not be saved. They had gone to attend a fest at the church in Kothamangalam. The accident happened while they were returning from their relative’s house early this morning. The accident happened in between this.

The cause of the accident is unclear. It is believed that Ted, who was driving, may have dosed off and rammed into a tree. The front portion of the car has been completely destroyed. Following smoke emanating from the bonnet due to the force of the hit, the fire brigade from Thodupuzha reached the spot and disconnected the battery connection and pumped water to completely avoid the possibility of fire.
