T P Madhavan, actor and the first general secretary of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) died Wednesday morning. He was 88. He was staying at Gandhi Bhavan in Pathanapuram with none of his kin nearby for the past nine years.
He was staying in a special room arranged for him in Gandhi Bhavan. He has two children. His son is Raja Krishna Menon, noted director of Bollywood. Madhavan had divorced his wife Girija years ago.
He died without fulfilling his last wish of meeting his son. Criticisms were raised that a famous actor had to stay in Gandhi Bhavan despite having a family.
Now, his son’s words said years ago are going viral on social media. Though born to T P Madhavan, in my memory had met him only twice.
He may have not seen me more than four times. My mother Girija raised me and my sister. When I told my mother about my passion towards films, she told me to give my 100% in it. She is a single mother and her financial situation was bad then. Still, she gave me strength, said Menon.
