Not everyone is a Pooram fanatic. But when it starts, one will naturally fall in awe of the happenings and will be engrossed until the last cracker bursts out. A similar Pooram ensued in the state assembly on Wednesday with firecrackers coming in the form of diatribes between the ruling and opposition sections.

“Ezhunnallippu and Kudamattam worked as per the norms. Nothing happened to tamper the Pooram. Where is the confusion?” said MLA A C Moideen. However, it took valiant efforts from ruling party MLAs V N Vasavan and K Rajan to convince CPI MLA P. Balachandran that no conspiracy happened in the Pooram ruckus.

Leader of the Opposition V.D. Satheesan retorted asking the government why they announced three investigations if no conspiracy happened.

Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan who eloquently described the Ilanjithara Melam and other pooram rituals, committed a gaffe at the end after wrongly naming CPI leader Sunilkumar as Sujithkumar. Thiruvanchoor blamed the ruling party for rolling the red carpet for Suresh Gopi to arrive in Thrissur amidst the ruckus and morph into his ‘action hero’ image thus ensuring major votes to fall into BJP camp.

Although the topic circled Thrissur Pooram, most CPM MLAs were waiting for the ideal time to settle scores with Satheesan who hurled personal attacks at CM Pinarayi Vijayan the other day. It didn’t take that long for CPM MLAs to start singing paeans for Pinarayi Vijayan while ripping apart Satheesan.

CPM MLA P Premkumar wilily reminded congress MLA AP Anilkumar about the solar case when the latter questioned the ‘Pinarayi Praising’ by ruling MLAs. Kadakampally Surendran came next with a three-minute monologue extolling Pinarayi Vijayan.

MLA Premkumar later pointed his acerbic comments at Satheesan alleging that the opposition leader humiliated Congress veteran A K Antony. Satheesan hit back with a clever riposte saying that Premkumar’s attack was indeed directed at a leader within CPM but not him.

Satheesan later ridiculed Minister Sivankutty for the latter's advice on manners to be followed inside the assembly chambers. Minister Sivankutty responded strongly resulting in a war of words. The issue quelled down after a timely intervention from speaker A N Shamseer.
