Railway AC mechanic pushes youth out of running train; man trapped between railway platform and train succumbs to death

KOZHIKODE: The youth, who was pushed out of a running train by a railway employee for trying to run into an AC coach, has died. Though the man was rushed to PVS Hospital near the railway station, his life could not be saved. The youth was rushed to the hospital by railway police officials. However, he was declared dead on arrival by the time he was taken to the hospital, authorities said. He was lying on the platform for half an hour after the accident before being taken to a hospital just metres away.

The incident took place at Kozhikode railway station. The man ran into the Mangaluru-Kochuveli special train that reached Kozhikode station and was about to leave from there. Passengers on the train alleged that the man was pushed out by an AC mechanic who was on the train.

Eyewitnesses say that when the youth ran onto the train, the employee pushed him away, shouting 'Get out of here'. One of the passengers in the running train pulled the chain and stopped the train. At this time, the youth was trapped between the platform and the train.

According to eyewitnesses, the employee behaved in this manner alleging that the youth was drunk. Railway police and officials were present at the spot. For a long time after the accident, the railway authorities refused to take the man to the hospital or provide him with emergency treatment.

Following this, passengers on the platform and those on board the train protested. Though Kerala Kaumudi Online contacted the Kozhikode Railway Police SI to know the details of the incident, he responded that he was on leave. The Kozhikode railway police were contacted as per his instructions and it was confirmed that the accident did occur.
