DEHRADUN: In a suspected sabotage attempt, a gas cylinder was discovered on a railway track used by the Indian Army in Roorkee, Uttarakhand, averting a major accident. The incident occurred at Dhande railway station around 6:35 am when a goods train, BCNHL/32849, was passing by. The train's loco pilot spotted the cylinder on the track and quickly braked, successfully stopping the train in time to prevent a disaster.
The abandoned cylinder was found near the Bengal Engineer Group and Centre, an area where military vehicles frequently pass. Local police and railway authorities have launched an investigation, though no evidence has been found in the area so far.
This incident follows a series of similar sabotage attempts in North India. Earlier this month, a sabotage attempt was thwarted in Uttar Pradesh's Rae Bareli district, when a dune was found on the railway tracks near Raghuraj Singh station. A passenger train's loco pilot noticed the obstruction and averted a potential accident.
In September, another gas cylinder was found on a railway track in Kanpur Dehat district, near Prempur railway station on the Delhi-Howrah line. The loco pilot of an express train saw the cylinder and alerted the control room, allowing the authorities to stop an approaching goods train, preventing another major accident.
