KUTTANAD: An 11-year-old boy, Aaron, saved the life of his sister who fell into a deep ravine while riding her bicycle. Alana Tresa Tomichan, a 6-year-old first grader and the daughter of Tomichan and Nancy, narrowly escaped a tragic accident thanks to her quick-thinking brother.
The incident occurred around 6 PM on Thursday in the 14th Ward of Nedumudi Panchayat, near Chembumpuram Keeppadveedu. Alana was cycling near her house when she suddenly lost control and fell into the Pulikkakavu river, located near the Chembumpuram Cultural Center.
Aaron, a 6th-standard student at Bishop Kuryalassery Public School in Champakulam, arrived shortly after and witnessed his sister struggling in the water. Despite being unable to swim, Aaron acted swiftly. He leaned against the protective wall of the ravine and grabbed Alana's collar just as she was about to be swept away by the current.
Hearing her screams, neighbours and Alana's mother, Nancy, rushed to the scene and helped pull her to safety. Locals noted that two people had previously drowned in the same stream.
