VELLARADA: In a dramatic incident, seven employees of the Amboori Grama Panchayat, including the Panchayat Secretary, were locked up in the office for nearly 5 hours in protest against not including the Adivasi category in the appointment of Anganwadi posts. The protest launched by nearly 200 Adivasi people, including women, yesterday evening concluded at around 8.45 pm.

Panchayat Secretary Sunil Kumar, accountant and UD clerks were trapped in the office for several hours. The protest was launched under the leadership of Thodumala Ward Member Akhila Shibu, opposing the non-inclusion of Adivasi community members from Anganwadi worker and helper positions. The protesters locked up those, including the panchayat secretary, after the women employees came out. They then sat in front of the office and started protesting.

The protest finally came to an end after the Director of Social Development held a discussion with MLA CK Hareendran and announced an immediate inquiry into the matter.
