Polytechnic student dies after motorbike collides with pickup van

THODIYOOR: A polytechnic student died after his motorbike collided with a pickup van. The deceased is Althaf (20), the son of Thevalakkara native Shihab. Kulashekharampuram native Nihar (18), who was with Althaf on the bike, sustained serious injuries. He is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Kollam. Both were students at the IHRD Polytechnic College in Karunagappally.

The accident occurred at SNV LPS Junction on the Mararithottam-Chambakkadavu road at around 1 pm yesterday. The pickup van was coming from Chambakkadavu, while the bike was approaching from Karunagappally. The bike was crossing the road when the pickup van collided with it.

Although Althaf was rushed to a private hospital, he was soon declared dead. He and Nihar were travelling from college to a mosque in Mararikulam when the accident occurred. Pickup van driver Vineeth Chandran escaped unhurt.
