ABU DHABI: In addition to flight, bus and metro train, a new transportation system is coming for people in UAE. Electric flying car maker Archer has announced that it will launch its air taxi service (Vyoma Taxi Service) in the UAE by the fourth quarter of 2025.
Earlier this year, US-based Archer Aviation received million-dollar investments from Abu Dhabi to build air taxis in the UAE and set up its international headquarters in the emirate.
In a statement released yesterday, Archer said that it is working with key partners such as Etihad Training and Falcon Aviation in relation to the project. Archer works with Etihad Aviation Training to recruit and train pilots for the aircraft. Another goal is to establish a Vertiport network in Dubai and Abu Dhabi with Falcon Aviation.
Named Archer Midnight, the air taxis are small planes that can seat four people. The journey time from 60 to 90 minutes is reduced to 10 to 30 minutes. Abu Dhabi and Dubai are the first cities in the world to introduce air taxis. The company had handed over the first product to the US Air Force for evaluation and testing of the air taxi. By September, more than 400 test flights had been conducted.
