"We are well-known goons in this area": Police officer assaulted by accused in 18 cases for sounding horn behind him

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The police have arrested two goons who beat up a police officer for not liking him sounding his vehicle horn. The arrested have been identified as Perumathura native Shanifer (32) and Puthucurichy native Joshy Gerald (28). They assaulted Shemeer, a police officer working at the city police crime branch office. The incident took place at 2.30 pm on Saturday when Shameer was on his way to Puthucurichy. According to the Kadinamkulam police, the accused, who were riding a bike in front of Shameer, questioned when the vehicle in which Shameer was travelling sounded its horn. They beat up Shemeer after that.

The assailants attacked Shemeer yelling "We are well-known goons in this area, who are you to come behind us and sound the horn?" According to the complaint, the accused took out a knife kept in the vehicle and tried to stab Shameer, hit him in the face and injured him. The accused were arrested on charges including attempt to murder. Shanifer, who belongs to the goonda list of Kadinamkulam police station, is an accused in around 18 cases. The accused were produced in court and remanded.
