WASHINGTON: A Secret Service agent responsible for the security of former U.S. President Barack Obama and his family has been dismissed following allegations of misconduct. The agent reportedly engaged in a sexual relationship with his girlfriend at the Obamas' home, specifically in a private bathroom belonging to Michelle Obama. The incident, which occurred in 2022 at the Obamas' beach house in Hawaii, came to light recently after the girlfriend published her memoir.
The memoir, titled ‘Undercover Heartbreak: A Memoir of Trust and Trauma’, was released on October 28. In the book, the woman details her relationship with the agent, accusing him of deceit and infidelity. According to her, the agent falsely claimed to be divorced, a lie she discovered later, prompting her to end the relationship. The memoir also highlights several security breaches, including the controversial incident at the Obamas' residence.
The woman alleged that the agent had assured her that their actions would remain secret and that no repercussions would follow. However, the release of her book spurred the Secret Service's Internal Investigation Division to launch a probe. Initial findings led to the agent's suspension and after a comprehensive investigation, he was dismissed from service. Authorities have indicated that further legal or administrative actions may be pursued.
