South Indian superstar Nayanthara, known as the ‘Lady Superstar,’ is celebrating her 40th birthday today. Adding to the occasion, Netflix has released a much-anticipated documentary titled ‘Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairy Tale’, which provides an intimate glimpse into the life and journey of the celebrated actor.

The documentary delves into Nayanthara's personal and professional milestones, including her triumphs and setbacks in both film and life. In a revelation, the star and her mother Omana Kurien spoke candidly about a challenging phase in Nayanthara's life, particularly her past romantic relationship with a leading Tamil actor.

In the documentary, Omana Kurien recounts the emotional turmoil she faced during her daughter’s relationship. Reflecting on that period, she said:

‘We have Chettikulangara Amma. Every morning, I would go to the temple and pray. I also prayed to Jesus. Amma gave me back my daughter. There were times when I thought she was slipping away from us. I prayed for strength and for my daughter to return to us. I knew no harm would come to her because God is with us. He gave us the courage to overcome those challenges.’

This is the first time both Nayanthara and her mother have openly addressed this chapter of the actor's life, adding depth to their emotional bond. Nayanthara shared her perspective on the relationship, acknowledging the mistakes she made and the lessons she learned. She said:

‘Many people approached my mother, asking her to find someone for me, as they believed my career and life were over. Falling in love with that Tamil actor was a mistake for me. He was behind the decision to end my film career. Mistakes are part of life and that’s okay. That phase taught me a lot and shaped who I am today.’

The release of the documentary comes amidst a brewing controversy in Kollywood, sparked by an open letter from Nayanthara criticizing actor Dhanush.
