Solitary cell, skipped lunch and no sleep; actress Kasthuri Shankar's first day in jail

CHENNAI: Actress Kasthuri Shankar, arrested for hate speech, is reportedly not cooperating in jail. According to jail sources, the actress refused to take food and was fully awake during the whole night on her first day in jail.

Kasthuri, placed in a solitary cell, skipped lunch on her first day. The number 644798 has been allotted to the actress. She has approached the High Court seeking bail but will be in judicial custody till the 29th of this month. Actress Kasthuri, who was hiding in a producer's house in Hyderabad, was caught by a special police team on Saturday evening.

The arrest was made in a case registered by the police over a controversial remark she made at a Hindu Makkal party meeting. The actress, a BJP supporter, remarked that the Telugu people came to palaces of Tamil kings as attendants centuries back and are now claiming to be Tamils.

This statement triggered massive unrest among Telugu sections and a case was initiated.
