A few actresses took the limelight in mollywood during the 90s era. Many attempted for stardom but only a few dames found success in Mollywood. One among them was Chennai native Kanaka, who appeared alongside all superstars of mollywood during the 90s. Despite being at the pinnacle of success, Kanaka chose to drop the glitter of the film world and went into oblivion. In 2010, Kanaka’s death news appeared on live television but was proved a hoax after the actress came with a response.
And now, prominent director Alleppey Ashraf has revealed some stories about the actress on his YouTube channel.
Ashraf:
“I first met Kanaka when the crew of the movie ‘Vietnam Colony’ reached Alappuzha for shooting. Later I went to her residence in Chennai to invite her to a Gulf program. Kanaka’s parents were separated. Since then, the actress has taken special care of her mother, akin to a hen projecting a chicken.
In fear of her father attempting to kidnap them, Kanaka even had to stay away from school for weeks.
The production controller of ‘Vietnam Colony’ once told me about a strange incident. According to him, witchcraft took place in a hotel room allowed for the actress. It is rumoured that the ritual was done to ward off a purported attack from her father. It speaks volumes about how Kanaka feared her father.
After her mother’s death, Kanaka became isolated and started a solitary life in Chennai. She became totally detached from the outside world and seldom entertained guests at her house. It also led to rumours that the actress was practising witchcraft to connect with her mother’s soul. She even rejected the few movie offers that came her way during this time.”
