MUMBAI: India had recently suffered a 0-3 defeat in the test series against New Zealand at home. Following this, it was hinted that the BCCI might take strong action against the senior players in the Indian team. According to the latest reports, the upcoming test series against Australia, starting on Friday, will determine the future of senior players such as Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja.
The BCCI has directed chief selector Ajit Agarkar to remain in Australia and collaborate with head coach Gautam Gambhir to devise a strategic plan for the future of Indian cricket.
Coach Gautam Gambhir has been heavily criticized for the team's poor performance in recent matches. "The Australian tour is a long one. Hence, both Agarkar and Gambhir can sit together and discuss how things can be taken forward after the tour. They will need at least one and a half years to build a team with strong backup," a source close to BCCI said.
BCCI is now working with the goal that India should continue to be the best team even after the retirement of the senior players. Some sources in the BCCI said that senior players will be asked to share how they plan their careers going into the next World Test Championship and the 2027 ODI World Cup.
