PALAKKAD: BJP state chief K Surendran, who was highly confident of Palakkad turning saffron this time, responded to the media after the results turned upside down for the party.
K SURENDRAN:
“You can check the by-poll results in Kerala’s recent history. NDA was not able to make any impact except in Neyyattinkara and Aruvikkara. Despite strong public sentiment against the state government, the main opposition UDF could not win Chelakkara. BJP increased by 10,000 votes in the constituency. While in Palakkad, we lost some votes, and it needs introspection"
BJP candidate C Krishna Kumar has not been able to come close to the lead of 6,000 votes garnered by E Sreedharan in the assembly elections in 2021 from Palakkad and not only that he has been relegated to the second position in the municipality. C K has an upper hand of just 400 votes when the votes are counted in BJP strongholds in the municipal council. When all the votes were counted in the city, Rahul came first. The BJP could not make a surge even in their strongholds.
