Thrissur woman's death after consuming Kuzhimandi; hotel owners arrested

THRISSUR: Police arrested two people regarding a woman's death after she consumed the Yemeni dish Kuzhimandi from a hotel operating in Thrissur. Rafeek (51), a native of Kaipamangalam, and Asfeer (44), a native of Ponjanam, both owners of Zain Hotel in Perinjanam were arrested.

The incident related to the case took place on May 25. Usaiba, a native of Perinjanam, died due to food poisoning after eating Kuzhimandi from the restaurant. Another 250 people who had food from Zain Hotel on the same day also suffered from stomach pain and vomiting. After the incident, the police and the health department closed the hotel and registered a case against the operators.

The court directed the accused who sought anticipatory bail to surrender before the investigating officers. The two thus surrendered before Kaipamangalam police on Thursday.
