Nine Indians killed as bus overturns in UAE; several people injured

DUBAI: Nine people were killed after a bus carrying construction workers overturned in Khor Fakkan in the UAE on Sunday, a report said. Several people were injured in the accident. Meanwhile, the Sharjah police urged everyone not to spread misinformation regarding the accident. All the nine people killed in the accident were construction workers from India. KMCC office-bearer Saleem Khaleej told the Times that all of the deceased were construction workers of a company based in Ajman.

The accident took place at around 8 pm on Sunday. The injured workers have been admitted to Khorfakkan Hospital. Further details of those involved in the accident are not available. The bus had around 70 labourers on board. The accident is believed to have been triggered by a brake malfunction.

The accident happened at Wadi Wishi Square in Khor Fakkan. Some of those injured suffered minor injuries, while others were seriously hurt, said Dr Ali Al Hamoudi, Director of the Eastern Region Police Department. Preliminary investigations showed that the driver lost control of the vehicle after its brakes failed, he added.
