THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In a shocking incident, a running BMW car caught fire in Karamana in Thiruvananthapuram. The incident took place at around 1.30 pm on Saturday. The car, travelling from Pappanamcode to the Killippalam region, caught fire in front of Karamana market.

The car, owned by Dr Karthiraj of PRS Hospital, was being driven by driver Shameer when the incident occurred. Upon noticing smoke and fire emanating from the lower part of the car, the locals alerted the driver. Following this, the driver stopped the car and escaped to safety. Although locals tried to douse the fire using a fire extinguisher from a nearby shop, they were unable to completely extinguish the flames. Subsequently, the Chenkalchoola Fire Force arrived at the spot and extinguished the fire. The rear section and engine of the car were destroyed in the fire. However, the seats were not damaged as the flames did not spread inside the vehicle.

The fire caused an estimated loss of around ten lakhs. The fire force has contacted the car company to find the cause of the fire. Traffic was disrupted in the area for about half an hour due to the fire.
