THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: There was a ruckus by the Left members in the syndicate meeting over the non-acceptance of the rank list prepared by the interview board for 12 guest assistant professor posts in the University of Kerala. VC Dr Mohanan Kunnummal had sent the list to the Governor and left member G Muralidharan questioned it in the meeting. VC has no authority for this. Left members demanded that the registrar answer for not implementing the decision of the last syndicate meeting to make the appointment. The rank list was prepared by the interview board chaired by DYFI leader and syndicate member JS Shijukhan.
However, the VC said that the rank list was sent to the governor as per the law and the appointment can be made only after the governor takes a decision. With this, the left members started a ruckus. The commotion continued for four hours. Left members questioned the fact that the VC had given an affidavit to the contrary while the Registrar informed the High Court of the decision of the Syndicate to approve the list. The VC had also sent to the Governor the decision of the Syndicate to promote Dr Naseeb as Associate Professor. This too was questioned by the left members.
Will not pay for governor's programme
The Left members took the stand that Rs1.85 lakh spent on the Sanskrit seminar inaugurated by the Governor cannot be sanctioned and that the teachers of the Sanskrit department should be charged. They also alleged that the inauguration ceremony was converted into a BJP-RSS event. However, the VC took a stand that the money should be sanctioned. The VC said he was leaving after ending the meeting. With that, this agenda was moved to the next meeting.
