THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Due to the increased intensity of ultraviolet (UV) radiation in the state, authorities have advised avoiding direct exposure to sunlight between 10 AM and 3 PM. Prolonged exposure to UV rays can lead to sunburn, skin and eye diseases, and other health issues, warns the Disaster Management Authority.

People engaged in outdoor work, including fishermen, water transport workers, bikers, tourists, individuals with skin or eye conditions, cancer patients, and those with weakened immunity, are urged to take extra precautions. It is advisable to use hats, umbrellas, and sunglasses when stepping out during the day. Wearing full-body-covering cotton clothing is also recommended.

Areas to be cautious about:

  • Hilly regions and tropical areas are likely to experience higher UV intensity.
  • Even under clear, cloudless skies, UV radiation levels can be high.
  • Water bodies and sandy areas require extra caution as they reflect UV rays, increasing exposure.
