MUMBAI: Action has been against a Malayali for smoking in the toilet of an IndiGo flight. The incident happened on the flight from Abu Dhabi to Mumbai. A case has been registered against Mohammed Ottapilakul (26) of Kannur. After the smell of cigarettes came from the toilet, the staff conducted a search and found a cigarette butt.
With this, the youth admitted to have smoked in the toilet and said that he did not know that it was not allowed on the plane. The staff also recovered six cigarettes from his hands. After landing, the security staff handed over the youth for further action. He was then taken to the Sahar police station. A case was registered and a notice was issued and he was released. He had gone to Abu Dhabi four months ago.
Similar incidents have taken place on IndiGo flights before this. A 38-year-old youth was arrested for smoking on a flight from Delhi to Pune in last September. The cabin crew conducted the search after finding cigarette butts in the dust bin of the toilet. They questioned the youth on suspicion. The youth did not admit initially. Later, upon reaching Lohegaon airport, he was handed over to the local police. The youth was later released after the procedures.
